Basics of Vext 2.0
In this section you'll learn the basics of setting up and using your Vext smart garden. We'll walk you through getting started, point out a few things to avoid, and let you know what to expect as your plants grow.
Getting started
Before your Vext starts running, you'll need to complete a few setup tasks. These appear on the front page of the app, and your cabinet won't begin working until they're all done:
Place the two nutrient bottles in their spots.
Fill the water tank.
Add your plants to the digital plant wall in the app, and keep it updated. Vext uses this to know when plants have been planted and to estimate how mature they are, so it can give them the right amount of nutrients.
Once every task on the app's front page is complete, your Vext will start automatically.
What to do
Set the light cycle to 14-16 hours. Your plants also need darkness to rest, so don't leave the lights on around the clock, even if the room gets little natural light.
The app's brightness slider is set to the recommended level for your plants by default. You can adjust it up or down at any time if you want to change the ambiance in your room. It resets to the recommended brightness the next day.
Regularly harvest each plant to encourage more bushy growth. This will get you more total harvest from each plant.
Top up the water tank when the level runs low, about every four weeks for small plants and every two weeks for large ones.
Once a month, reset the water with a full clean and refill. The app will let you know when each is due.
Keep up with the tasks the app gives you, such as water and nutrient refills, cleaning, and plant care.
What not to do
When refilling the water tank be careful not to pour water in the vents that are on the left and right side of the water tank.
Do not move your Vext around when it has water in it and/or plants on the plant wall, as it is heavy and it can break it and can cause other harm.
Do not fill the water tank above the maximum fill line.
Don't forget to update the plant wall in the app when you swap old plants for new ones.
What to expect when growing
On average it takes plants 5-20 days to sprout. Leafy greens sprout faster (5-15 days) and herbs slower (10-20 days); fruiting vegetables and flowers vary.
Most plants are harvest ready around 40 days after planting them.
Most plants can be harvested for at least 10-12 weeks.
When you first start your Vext, it runs an 18-hour soak, misting heavily to wet the pods. Directly after comes a dry stage that lasts about a day. Once both are done, Vext settles into its normal rhythm, misting for a few minutes and then resting for about 10 minutes. Seeing fog behind the plant wall a few times an hour from then on is completely normal and part of how it keeps your plants hydrated.
When the water level gets low, the grow lights will pulsate a few times within an hour to alert you. Refill the water tank when you notice this.
You can also look up each plant's growth timeline and general harvesting and pruning guides from the plant wall page in the app.
